You There!

Senior Design Campaign

Young adults in high-density urban areas often seek a sense of belonging in their community, but do not have clear information about what opportunities are available to them due to lack of connections, information and confidence.

This project aims to explore how design can improve access to community information and support engagement, helping young adults feel connected in their community.

Research & Development

Target Audience:

Adults aged 20–28 in high-density urban areas

Problem:

Young adults in high-density urban areas often seek a sense of belonging in their community, but do not have clear information about what opportunities are available to them due to lack of connections, information and confidence.

This project aims to explore how design can improve access to community information and support engagement, helping young adults feel connected in their community.

Solution:

An app that hosts information about upcoming, city-based events that help connect young adults by providing information about said events, creating a clear sorting system, and providing a platform to safely and publicly make plans to meet new connections.

Mission

By providing the resources to get you there, we’re building long-lasting connections to
our communities, building confidence, and celebrating what makes city life so special.

Features:

  • Basic information about the event, such as name, time and date, location, event type and whether or not the event is free, as well as a description of the event are hosted within the app. Links on each event lead to the original host’s post or website about the event for further information or questions.

  • See who all is planning to attend as well as mark if you are going to attend the event by pressing the button labeled “I’m going!” From there, you can chat with anyone who has marked themselves as going and are able to publicly make plans about when and where you will meet to attend the event.

  • Color coding and tags help users quickly identify types of events.

  • Keep track of your discussions about an event on the Chats tab. It will show you all of your chats, as well as provide you with a brief summary of what plans you’ve made thanks to Scout, your AI scheduling assistant. You can view all of the events you’ve marked as going to in your calendar on your private profile page.

  • To further incentivize users to attend events, a badge system is in place— helping users keep track of how many events they’ve attended, when they’ve started or participated in making plans with others, and encouraging them to explore different categories of events.

Vision

Deliverable 3:

Print Advertising

You There’s vision is to foster new experiences, connect communities, and empower
young adults to have long-lasting, meaningful relationships in and with their city.

Deliverable 1:

You There App

The project’s main deliverable: the You There app. Designed to allow users to easily find events near them and chat with other users who are going to the same event.

Deliverable 2:

Social Media

Social media material giving the brand a voice, promoting random events in different cities, providing resources to safely meet up outside of the app, and more. Social media would serve as a way to further connect You There users through sharing the unique events happening in other cities, as well as engage the audience in fun “what event type are you”
or “our month wrapped” posts to start conversations on their platforms that would drive viewers to the app.

Deliverable 4:

Stationery

In addition to the app, promotional materials would be placed around high-density cities
to get the word out there. The phrase, and brand namesake, You There is attention grabbing, and encourages passerby’s to stop and scan the QR code to download the You There app. Advertisements can also play into category color combinations by promoting different types of events or events relating to holidays, celebrations, and more.

But what’s a brand without stickers? I decided to create four stickers highlighting different cities that fall within that “high-density urban area” label. Each city features a unique font
to showcase what city it’s for, as well as some popular iconography to better connect the stickers to their locations.
