Inn at Irwin Gardens Stationery

Design Exploration Course Project

The Inn at Irwin Garden in Columbus, Indiana is a historical inn featuring a gorgeous garden, stunning architecture, and is the perfect place to stay for anyone exploring the city. To investigate design in the hospitality industry and how good design affects all aspects of a business, I selected the Inn for a brand refresh and created stationery that would entice visitors to stay again.

Concept Development

Logo Creation

A second iteration of the new branding leaned more into the beauty of the Inn itself. Looking closely at small details such as intricate designs on windows and doors lead to a more concrete and successful design idea. From this, I created a new logo mark for the Inn at Irwin Garden that reflected the elevated, elegant, and historic character of the Inn that I was hoping to achieve.

An investigation of the Inn at Irwin Garden’s current branding and social media prompted the idea of a brand refresh. I looked for inspiration in the Inn’s architecture and the statues that are featured in the garden. Initial designs leaned heavily into the idea of featuring these statues as a sort of character to represent the Inn, but this idea did not reflect the elegance and historic feeling of the Inn that I wanted the branding to embody.

Deliverables

When creating a stationery set for the inn, I reflected on vintage hotel ephemera; Replaceable items that visitors would be inclined to take to remember their trip by.
This included a notepad, a business card, a do not disturb sign, and a stamp that could
be placed on any other paper or complimentary products the Inn may offer.
